Simon Keir, Westlawn Senior Insurance Specialist, speaks to the Daily Examiner
While accidents can happen all year round, the Christmas school holidays are notorious for an increase in the number of injuries, Westlawn’s Senior Insurance Specialist, Simon Keir, recently told Daily Examiner reporter Georja Ryan.
With more traffic on the road, more people on the beaches and more cricket balls flying around backyards, Simon has seen his fair share of claims over the festive season.
“I’ve been in the Insurance profession for 13 years and I always have extra claims that my clients have lodged in this six week period than any other,” Simon told the Daily Examiner.
“These accidents happen when people are simply doing the usual Christmas activities. Last December, I had a claim for a client I will call Mr Cricket to protect his identity,” Simon said.
“Mr Cricket was playing a game of backyard cricket with his family on Christmas afternoon, when he was running between wickets and tore his Achilles tendon.
“He had to retire hurt and sit on the sideline for the next five months before he could return to his trade.
“Fortunately, Mr Cricket had income protection and received a monthly income until he could return to work. This allowed his family to pay the mortgage and cover the usual living expenses while he recovered and watched the cricket on TV.”
Simon added that if it wasn’t for Mr Cricket’s proactive nature, he would have been dished up a serious serving of financial stress heading into the new year.
Be careful, and stay safe this Christmas holiday season.
